“Giving up on a purposeful journey of life is as deadly as death! When you pursue with tenacity, and strive through the adversities and the vicissitudes of life with a mind of fortitude and get to the end of the journey, you shall surely see life. Awake! Arise and go! Never ever give up!!!” - Ernest Agyemang Yeboah.
To be completely honest, in the last two years of my life, I gave up. I was driven and focused for so long, that the minute I didn’t have to be, I stopped. I stopped living. It wasn’t bad. It was a moment in my life in which I needed to stop for a minute. Enjoy what was in front of me. Enjoy the things that I already had. I don’t regret the last two years because it was special in its own ways.
Now though, I am excited about the road ahead. It isn’t easy. I am missing a few special people. But there are exciting things ahead! I understand that I’ve been continuously saying that, so I guess now it’s time to explain some of them.
1) I get to be the athlete ambassador at the Canadian National Championships next week! In the Paramount Fine Foods Center (Previously the Hershey Center) I have so many memories. In that arena, I watched my first competition outside of Newfoundland, walking around the rink eating dip n’ dots fifteen times a day. In that rink I competed numerous Skate Canada Challenges, stressed through our National Camps, and one of my favourite memories of all time, I won my first National Championship title on that ice. I am so excited to be cheering in the stands next week. Watching old friends and new competitors make unforgettable memories. Who knows, maybe we will be lucky enough to watch someone win for the first time!
2) Alongside my good friend, Matt Power, we are preparing for the second round of Off The Rock. Working on getting ourselves organized, registration will be open shortly for three locations in Newfoundland in March. We are both so ecstatic about round one. There was so much talent and excitement amongst the skaters and we are looking forward to seeing even more. From the second round, we will be choosing skaters for a final camp, in which two skaters will have the opportunity to train in Edmonton for a week with the Ice Palace FSC. This has truly been an exhilarating project for Matt and I.
3) My dream of going to school is going to become a reality! In September I’ll be starting school, studying journalism! I absolutely loved school growing up, and even though it has been seven years since I graduated high school, I am over the moon thrilled to be going back. That being said… It’s been seven years since I have been to class! I am terrified that I won’t have the work ethic or know how to study. Wish me luck, I am desperately going to need it.
4) And probably my biggest life change is that I am living in Toronto. This is a new stage of life for me. Living on my own in a city. Like all things, it is a scary thing. I’ve never lived alone. Yes, I have my dog and my cat, but I have never lived alone. It is a big step. What makes it so much easier is knowing I have my friends nearby. It is a big reason why I have been talking about the necessity of friends in your life. My friends have helped me so much in the last little bit. Supportive in all my decisions. And this new chapter is going to be highly entertaining.
I am ready to explore and find the best coffee shops. Rasquette is hyped on finding the best dog park. Annie is just looking for the sun to rise so she can bath in the heat. If any Toronto people have any insight on the best of Toronto, let me know!!!
I am feeling alive! Ready to wake up every morning and see what the day is going to bring. I am strong enough to tackle anything that tries to stop me, and if I am not, I have the friends to help me out.
On top of the things I have mentioned above, you will be able to see me in some other shows. Most upcoming is a show in Kingston on February 1st. It is an outdoor show, so dress warm. And most exciting is going back out on Stars On Ice this spring! I am sure this is more to come, but I will continuously keep appearing everywhere. You can’t keep me from the ice!
Always remember, if you happen to see me somewhere, please come say hi. I love meeting new people.
